Physical Education

General Outcomes

Students in PE classes:

  1. Acquire skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate movement activities.
  2. Understand, experience and appreciate the health benefits that result from physical activity.
  3. Interact positively with others, demonstrating teamwork and sportsmanship.

Physical Education 10

3 Credits

Prerequisite: None

Physical Education 10 is a required course for high school graduation. Activities covered in Physical Education 10 include aquatics, badminton, basketball, fitness, dance, flag football, curling, bowling, touch rugby, slo-pitch, volleyball and other games.

Physical Education 20

3 Credits

Prerequisite: Minimum of 50% in Physical Education 10

This course emphasizes individual sports such as tennis, golf, badminton, curling, aquatics, and fitness.

Career & Life Management (CALM)

The aim of senior high school Career and Life Management (CALM) is to enable students to make well-informed, considered decisions and choices in all aspects of their lives and to develop behaviours and attitudes that contribute to the well-being and respect of self and others, now and in the future.

General Outcomes

  1. Personal Choices: Students will apply an understanding of the emotional/psychological, intellectual, social, spiritual and physical dimensions of health - and the dynamic interplay of these factors - in managing personal well-being.

  2. Resource Choices: Students will make responsible decisions in the use of finances and other resources that reflect personal values and goals and demonstrate commitment to self and others.

  3. Career and Life Choices: Students will develop and apply processes for managing personal, lifelong career development.

Career and Life Management 20

3 Credits

Prerequisites: None

CALM is a required course for high school graduation. It covers the following three themes: Career and the World of Work, Relationships and Independent Living.
